Buying a Garage Door
Garage Doors are the largest moving appliance in your home, and they dramatically affect the appearance of your home. There are many things to consider when purchasing a garage door. Do you want insulated or non-insulated? Do you like the look of windows, or would you rather have a solid door? How do you choose the best vendor?

To give you a better idea of the process we have expanded on these topics below:

Insulated or Non-insulated?

If you are looking for a basic replacement door, a non-insulated door would fit the bill. The non-insulated door typically has a wood grain textured steel front with a hollowed interior. This is the most common replacement and is used in most standard homes.

The insulated door has an interior steel layer in addition to the wood grain textured steel front. There is insulation between the two layers which makes the insulated door sturdier than its non-insulated counterpart. You can choose from varying degrees of insulation depending on manufacturer and model. We normally see insulated doors in homes with insulated garage walls. The insulation helps to level out the temperature inside the garage.

Windows or Solid?

Doors come solid from the manufacturer. You have the option of adding windows to let in light, or you may decide you like a design. Glass is initially cut into the squares on the front of the door. They are plain glass squares, which you can leave, or you can decorate them by using inserts. Inserts are plastic squares that fit on top of the glass squares but they are painted the same color as the garage door so the glass looks as if it has designs.
